South Miami, which is a suburban city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, encompasses approximately 2.5 square miles and is commonly known as the City of Pleasant Living. Located three miles south of Downtown Miami, it borders the main campus of the University of Miami, and is adjacent to the cities of Coral Gables, Pinecrest, and Dadeland.
The City of South Miami, incorporated in 1927, has its own city government, two major hospitals - South Miami Hospital and Larkin Hospital, shopping, in particular, The Shops at Sunset Place, movie theaters, and a variety of dining experiences, all offering a hometown ambience.
